I'm not a tender, but I am a bar patron and grad student. Yes, college 
students are poor tippers. I'm from the upper-midwestern US, and in my 
experience, as a patron of places where bartenders make minimum wage and 
servers make even less, poor tipping means poor service.

I'd like to ask a question about customers and tipping now, and please don't 
flame me for being sexist. See, I'm female, and I get shitty service in bars. 
I buy my own drinks and I tip generously, but in my environment, (especially 
in that college-bar context) I'm the minority. Until I find a bar I love and 
become a regular, I have come to expect poor service. So I ask you all, is it 
just my experience, or is it generally true in other places as well, that 
women are lousy tippers?

(And if not, what can I do to get better service? I'm polite, I smile, and I 
tip well. I would think that's enough.)
