My point was that old recipes have listed lime as well as lemon in a whisky 
sour, so what is wrong with using other sour ingredients.

Personally, I feel that certain spirits go with lemon juice far better than 
they do with lime juice, and vice versa.

In the same way, certain fruit are complimented to a greater extent with 
different types of citrus rather than others.

At the end of the day, the drink is a Whisky Sour (whisky & sour), there is no 
implied source for the sour element itself. So inmy book it can be lemon or 
lime, but as I can see by the responses it might be frowned upon to stretch it 
further to include passionfruit or grapefruit juice.

As for being driven crazy by naming "restrictions", this would just rate 
alongside vodka martinis and frozen strawberry margaritas. Some people care, 
most don't.
