Exactly my point.

If a customer steps up to the bar and asks for a "Manhattan", then it would be 
flatly wrong to make it with any added cherry juice.

However, if at home you are making yourself a Manhattan, and you occassionally 
want to add a splash of cherry juice to it, there really isn't anything wrong 
with that... as long as you don't get the mistaken idea that this is the 
"right" way to make a Manhattan.

I think you, me, and bar.mix.master are all on the same page here.
