Hello Mix Master, perhaps you're new to message boards so I'll point out that 
the way the post titles are indented indicates whom is replying to whom.  My 
post about the correct Manhattan recipe was in direct response to Flash.  I've 
replied to you elsewhere on this thread and at no point did I tell you "That's 
not a REAL Manhattan"; from the beginning I understood that you were talking 
about your own personal recipe.  My post to Flash focused on the fact that a 
Manhattan is what it is and I don't see the need to sweeten it up because 
customers can't handle such a strong drink.  Some can, others cannot and will 
order accordingly.    


I just reread my previous post and thought I should clarify something:

The 'some' was not a reference to you or anyone else in this thread.  I have 
come across a few individuals who not only put cherry juice in their 
Manhattans, but believe that this is THE way to make it.  Apparently that was 
how they were first shown the drink and continued to think this was standard 
ever since.  There are many, many misconceptions and pieces of misinformation 
out there about cocktails and one of the nice things about this forum is that 
we can dispel them.  

Just last night a waiter comes to me and tells me that his customer wants a 
virgin Seabreeze.  I told him that I didn't have any grapefruit juice (this 
was a catered event in which the client had provided all liquor and mixers) 
and he said that this person said it would be just orange and cranberry juice.

"Oh, so she means a virgin MADRAS.  Gotcha."
