I should have probably prefaced that my story was intended to have less to do
with how the drink ended up being poured and more to do with the name and
people who first drank it which really brought it the grand attention.

I actually wasn't trying to debate the merrits of the recipe, or even join in
on this thread. I just throught I'd get people to consider a reason why the
recipe (good or bad, accidental or not) has survived through so many cocktail
trends and managed to become one of the most ordered drinks in the US (maybe
the world?). My story has more impact if the drink is accidental than if the
guy who made it turned out to be a genius and knew what he was doing with both
the marketting of his drink, and the recipe itself (which, I'm sorry to say, I
think is a horrible drink, but that's the extent of my opinion on the matter).
