This second point DOES describe why many professional mixers dislike the damn 
drink, true. I see them coming and I roll my eyes.

BUT I like to think I can see past that and disagree with your first point. 
Despite the fact that the drink is abused by the wrong sort of customers, it's 
still a valid, balanced, unique, classic recipe.
I will choose for myself or make for myself a LIIT because I do appreciate 
the balance of flavours and buzz that I can get from a good one. I will go so 
far as upselling the liquors (to call, but probably not to top shelf) because 
yes, I damn well can taste and enjoy the difference. I've proven this in a 
blind taste test with a workmate when having similar discussions in the past.

It's certainly not just a glorified Cuba Libre. (at least not the tequila 
version ;-)

Is Hennessy chosen by no-hopers? Yeah.
Does the fact that someone chooses Hennessy make them likely to be a no-hoper? 
Often.
Does this alone make Hennessy an intrinsically worse drink than it was 
before it was immortalized in rap lyrics? I don't think so.
