i'm not too sure about your comparison. i never even mentioned the 'people who 
order liit's' as any part of the reason for my dislike of the drink. i was 
talking about your metaphorical 'team'

could you please explain to me what exactly the vodka adds to the drink?

dan you and i both know that in the fickle world we live in, drinks can become 
popular or 'classics' just because of a catchy name, interesting story, tv 
shows,  mass marketing, ignorance etc and not just because of the quality of 
the recipe.  I understand you enjoy the taste of the drink and may find it 
refreshing/balanced etc. I also appreciate your romaniticism with the drink. 
To quote myself from the original post:

hence in my opinion and experience, the popularity of liit generally stems 
from a) ignorance and b) people not knowing what else to order or what they 
like.

I'd like to reiterate that neither of these are factors in my dislike of the 
drink itself. If anything it allows me the chance to amplify their knowledge 
and guide them towards different (not necessarily better) ways of enjoying 
cocktails/spirits and let them develop their own palates should they wish to. 
Hell, if we can have some fun together while we are at it then why the hell 
not! wouldn't you rather prefer a bartender with his own ideas, suggestions 
and opinions (a long as he doesn't force them onto you) than a human vending 
machine?

calculating enough that the common recipe is EQUAL parts of 4 spirits and 
triple sec? i guess this was for optimal balance.
