OK, this story is the assumption that many folk start from.
And this assuption - that it was made by accident by an idiot - is the reason 
for them to dislike the drink.

I make two points - 
- even if it was made by accident for the wrong reason, it ended up OK.
- Maybe it was actually designed and refined a bit. 

Your little tale is perfectly valid conjecture. Almost the accepted legend. 
I'm the one going out on a limb by suggesting a situation where someone 
actually tasted it and thought "Hm, some triple sec would really help this out"
