It's a recipe that was once very popular with drunks, same as the LIIT and the 
Hurricane, and that's tarnished it's reputation a bit. The other reason it's 
not more popular is that Don kept such a stranglehold on the original recipe 
that most people don't know how to really make one. :) Combine crappy 
unconsistent recipes that mostly don't make any sort of technical sense with a 
crowd of ugly drunks who end up using it in a way that showcases the ugly 
underside of the bar scene and of course there's a bartender backlash. Same 
sort of thing has happened to the Cosmo in some areas.

There's two contenders for the original Zombie, a complicated one by Don's 
ex-wife, and a simple one that Don supposedly loaned one of his friends for a 
self-published barbeque manual. :) I prefer the simpler recipe, myself. It's a 
double Sour served in a larger glass, and it's the easiest drink in the world, 
once you understand where he was going with it.
