Ok I thought that taste was part of that pretentiousness as in "this drink is 
well balanced" and "use a little bit less of this or that" or "this is a true 
tasty cocktail". 
The pointless arguments about making a better cocktail: muddling limes in a 
cuba libre.

OK, but those myths are what make a LIIT a "good" drink. It doesn't have to be 
true as long as people perceive some kind of good feeling drinking or ordering 
it. 
In the Netherlands we have a stupid drink called flugel. A very sweet drink 
which contains less than 15% alcohol (I am not sure probably 14.9% such that 
it can be drunken by 16 year olds which aren't allowed to drink stronger stuff 
except wines above 15%. There are a lot drinks containing 14.9% alcohol here). 
But... it is sold in small 4cl flasks for prices like 2 euro (about 2 dollar). 
And people drink those things in huge quantities also thinking wow we gonna 
get trashed. And they think like it contains "good" alcohol because they don't 
get drunk fast from it. Before drinking you have to tick it a few times on the 
bar.
This is like selling red bull and vodka ratio 3:1 in little 4 cl flasks for 2 
euros. Somehow it worked.
