This is true for at least some flavours. You have something called super 
tasters, tasters and non tasters. In which group you belong depends on the way 
you are able to taste a certain kind of bitter substance. Super tasters like 
creamy and sugar foods less than non tasters.

The amount of taste buds differs depending on age. I don't know exactly but 
certain buds need to develop yet during childhood and after something like the 
age of 30-40 the number will decrease.

Probably there might be something for other senses (tactile and smell) as well 
creating a difference of perception due to differences in the senses. 

But this does not explain all differences. There is even already some small 
prove that we learn to appreciate foods while we aren't even born yet.
Carrots (and a few others but the carrots is what I can remember) is a food 
which babies have a preference for if their mothers eat a lot carrots during 
their pregnancy. 
Some things can be explained with different senses but a lot can be explained 
with learning. I know someone who is (psychological) "allergic" to cashew nuts 
since she got in a traffic accident while having eaten cashew nuts before that 
accident.
If your wive wants to be right she should ask which perfume you prefer giving 
you an option of several perfumes among which the one she regarly uses (men 
never notice what kins of perfumes their partners use). It would be very 
probable that you'll like the perfume she regarly uses.

I think that preference for Cuba Libre over LIIT is learned.
