Do you stir clockwise or counterclockwise?  Or is it the opposite in the 
southern hemisphere, I always forget.  ;)

Seriously though, I don't know how anyone could make such a precise 
quantitative statement without knowing the size of the tin, the volume of 
spirit, the quantity of ice and the size of the ice cubes themselves.  The 
idea is that you stir until the drink is as cold as possible, I normally stop 
right when I see the condensed water on the sides of the tin freezing (which 
is why I don't like tins with rubber around the outside).  At that point the 
drink can't get any colder and additional stirring or shaking is just going to 
burn more ice.
