I've seen this technique before but don't know what it's called. More commonly
I've seen and have had guests order "In & Out Martinis", or "Inside Out
Martinis, or "Upsidedown Martinis" which is where you pour a little vermouth
in the chilled glass, swirl and dump out the vermouth coating the insides of
the glass.

I actually do this for the "real" Martini drinkers when they are right in
front of me. You can always tell real ones. They are usually older, have great
presence and eye contact, scan the back bar, call with a premium gin, and
watch every move you make. I always ask them if they prefer shaken or stirred.
Some don't say anything about the vermouth swirl in the glass, and some will
say, nice! I like that!
