From whence springs thy canonical Julep? The clever and entertaining faux
acrimony among earlier julep-ists is more rewarding than half the juleps I
encounter. Indeed, mentioning the various bones of contention regarding the
julep's construction seems to be part of the process too, at least among the
overly-informed. I'd hate to see the end of all the fun by discovering the
Julep's Rosetta Stone.
And AB's julep was a disaster. Fine sugar and mint muddled with the wrong end
of a stick until the consistency of pesto, then loosened with charged water,
and held down by ice cubes and bourbon. The final insult came in the form of
more charged water. The fact that it was stirred, I will consider a
misdemeanor.
