Heh, I always thought it was a baseball bat until I saw it mentioned here at
webtender.

I'm sure you know, the cocktail was named many years after Mary was in the
news, probably for no better reason than it had a good ring to it. I doubt the
bartender was making any historical allusions. Wikipedia agrees.
