Hi Cheryl,
boy did you say it. I've got a completely green girl training right now,
she's done bar school but has no service background and hasn't really spent
any time in bars as even a customer. I must have told her ten times in one
night, "Rest the jigger on the glass, pretend there's a hinge on the rim." I
kept watching her pour into the jigger while holding it two feet away from the
glass. Since she can't move the jigger several inches while it's completely
full she keeps underpouring the shots, which I get on her case about too.
This is a hotel bar, we don't give anything away, but I will see to it that
people get their full shot.
I'm a tad frustrated with her. Yes, I know she's new, but I could have faked
it behind the bar just from the amount of time I was in them as a college
student. By the time I got a bar job I was a lot more comfortable back there
than it looks like she'll ever be. Just venting a little, I honestly don't
know why she even wants this job since she seems to have avoided drinking and
bars thus far in her life.
" P.S. Those measured bottle pourers suck."
Yes they do! I've leaned on my boss about them and I'm going to push her to
get me the standard metal pour spouts when we order another batch. We're
already using the jiggers, that makes the measured spouts redundant. Jigger
OR measured spout (or freepour, of course), NOT BOTH!!! I'm so sick of them
cutting out early (especially when the bottle is almost empty) and looking
like an idiot in front of the customer as I repeatedly rotate the bottle to
get that ounce out.
The other problem is we don't have nearly enough spouts. I want to get a lot
more of them so I can put them on all but the most obscure bottles. The fact
that several of the bottles I use nightly have to be unscrewed and poured from
openly slows me down considerably, being careful to not gush into the jigger.
