I agree, it totally depends on the lime. Even the same type of lime it depends 
what part of the season it is. Early in the season there isn't as much sugar 
in the lime. If your limes are less sweet, add more cointreau rather than 
simple. I prefer the 1:1:1 mix, personally. But that's with limes from produce 
suppliers. If I go to the farmers market myself to pick out the limes, they 
are almost certainly riper and sweeter, in which case a 2:1:1 is more 
appropriate.
