The Caipi range (rum, vodka and cachaca) and the Mojito (together with all 
their variations and twists), are now very mainstream/popular and will be 
around forever!

The reasoning for this is the relatively simple formula that these drinks 
follow! The great thing about these drinks is that they can be adapted to suit 
one persons individual taste. Just think of all the variations there are of 
the aforementioned cocktails, crazy really........

It is this that makes ME think that RUM will be the next big thing. With a 
range of top quality Rum's and Cachaca's now readily available in bars and 
supermarkets (Havana Club, Bacardi, Gosling's, Mount Gay, Bundaberg, Myers's, 
Sagatiba, etc, etc), the public are now able to pick a rum to suit their 
taste, whereas before you would only find a couple of Rum's in most bars (not 
just talking about cocktail bars here, but EVERY bar).

Drinks like the Dark and Stormy show Rum's ability to create a simple, yet 
stunning, drink.

My personal favourite Rum just now is Matusalem Gran Reserva 15yo. Tried this 
stuff in La Perla, Covent Garden, London and just had to get a bottle. Amazing 
drink! I have yet to try their Clasico or Platino but am making a vow to do 
that in the near future. It is a Cuban style Rum from the Dominican Republic.

In saying that a wide range of Rum is more readily available, this wide range 
of choice can now be found on most spirits, which is what makes it harder to 
tell what will be the next big thing!

Vodka will always be the top-seller but as the public's palate evolves, and 
they look for more taste/depth in a drink, Gin and Rum will hopefully become 
more popular! 

P.S that last comment is in no way meant to upset any Vodka afficionados out 
there, but there is more OBVIOUS taste in Gin and Rum. I for one appreciate 
Vodka but would just like to see Gin and Rum become more popular........
