why do some people think that the pinnacle of bartending excellence is being
able to flair?
I would like to know why some people think that flairing has any place on a
serious bar?
Do high class/ serious culinary establishments have flair chefs. No, they let
the quality of the cooking speak for itself.
To excel at bartending, means being friendly (which is a natural gift),
continually acquiring product knowledge, good cocktail recipes, all of which
can be learned. Entertaining the guests can be accomplished without stupid
card tricks, and spinning bottles (truth or dare!)
Training a beginner bartender into thinking that aimlessly flairing a bottle
will some how advance them into having a better bartending ability is
ludicrous!
I get greatly annoyed by people asking 'do a bit of flairing!'.
I am a bartender not a monkey in a circus!
George!
