Yeah I was gonna say that you have to start with the purest water possible.
Distilled is good. The ice they make for big ice sculptures is made with
distilled water and they have these jets from 2 sides that are agitating the
water from the bottom up while it's freezing. They say that it gets all the
air and bubbles out so that the ice is clearer.
Also at the end of the ice sculpture they take a torch to it which melts the
out layer then freezes into a clear varnish look.
So, I guess all you can do at home is have the purest water available.
