> Basically Bacardi is a cuban rum
'tis a "Cuban Rum" in that it is made by a company that originally started
business in Cuba.
'tisn't a "Cuban Rum" in that it's not, and hasn't for some time been
manufactured in Cuba.
The Company was founded in Cuba
The Rum does not come from Cuba.
I don't think any random Scotsman can emigrate and begin marketing "Scotch
Whiskey" wherever he settles - no matter how true (or good) the recipe is.
Hence, I will not call Bacardi "Cuban Rum". Cuban-style rum is as close as it
gets.
But I agree they are significantly different spirits.
I would say Havana Club Silver/White is a lot harsher and throatier than the
smoother, almost sweeter Bacardi.
And partly because of that, the Cuba Libre with Havana Club is a significant
amalgam of tastes. Adding lime to a Bacardi & Coke, whilst nice, doesn't
really change the drink as much as it does with Havana.
... look at me. It's Xmas eve and I'm wittering on about the subtleties of a
RUM & COKE f'crissake!
The things I'll do to take a break from the family. Have a good one y'all and
gird thy loins for New Years.
