Here in NY most clubs are very strict.  For the Local goverments are really on 
a mission to crack down on this type of thing.  Doorman I find is a job that 
seems almost every week there is a new face working, so as a bartender I am on 
watch , for sadly I have found doorman tend to like to feel as if they are 
celebrities and tell there freinds they can get them in when some are 
underage.( especially attractive girls)  If I refuse someone's ID when I ask 
for it I always act polite and tell them where a few other clubs are in the 
general area where they might have a good time for their age group. If they 
get upset than I call the boss.  Turning your business away, even though they 
were wrong, in the big picture of things such as liability to the club is 
small to the owners.
I can relate though, one time I went out to a club and I just recieved my new 
liscence, I accidently grabbed my expired one instead, when I got to the door 
the doorman said he can't let me in for my Drivers liscense expired, I 
realized I had the wrong one, so I said but listen man, I am in my 30's and 
that is my picture, just because I took the wrong one with me doesn't mean 
that I have turned the ageing clock back and now I am underage? LOLOL he still 
refused to let me in.
