Subject: Turning away ID's. [warning: rant]

[begin rant] Recently reading a post on here I was reminded of a bad
experience I had at a local Bar/Grill/Dance club here in town. Around 7 pm,
myself, my girlfriend and another couple entered the bar and after waiting for
almost five minutes to get any sort of attention from the bartender at an
empty bar, we ordered a few drinks. Before the bartender even asks what my
girlfriend wants she asks for I.D. This is normal, considering we are both 22
and she "looks" VERY young.

Now this is where I got upset. The bartender was not friendly at all, barely
even making eye contact with any of us. she takes my girlfriends ID and
starts picking at the edge of it, trying to peel off the top layer of plastic.
She then calls over her supervisor, who also takes the ID and attempts to
pull it apart. Then the supervisor comes back to us and says "I'm sorry, I
can't accept this". To which I replied "Why not? She's 22, and its a valid
Driver's License?" He replied, "I can't accept it". So I persisted and
asked, "Can you tell me why?" His response, "This is laminated, real ones
aren't laminated".

Which of course is BS becuase it is a valid California state issued Drivers
License, and she is of legal age.

I then asked for his supervisor and he claimed to be the manager during that
shift. So after a lot of frusteration I decided to take a business card and
we all left. Unfortunatley that put a bad taste in all of our mouthes that
night, and we took our business else ware. Needless to say, we haven't been
back there yet.

I understand that there are a lot of cases of FAKE ID's. However, I was
completely offended by the employees of this particular esatblishment, not
only in accusing us of fraudulent documents, but in the inconsiderate manner
which we were all treated.

Small wonder this place has gone bankrupt three times in the last ten years.

Is it common practice to turn away a customer because you don't know how to
properly identify a valid Driver's License? Or was this a simple case of poor
training? [/end rant]
