Maybe, but you forgot to mention water, so rum, sugar,lime juice and water 
sounds more like a punch than a Daiquiri :
...Vernon grew tired of losing so many men to drunken incidents that he 
ordered their daily ration of rum to be diluted with water and served out in 
halves (half at noon, other half at sunset)...
I knew Admiral Vernon story, but he never served to his men just rum, sugar & 
lime, but he added water, so maybe if he had skipped the water, he could have 
been the one who created the early daiquiri. Don't you think so?
