Most bars I have known have a no cell phone usage policy. However, most will 
always let you have it on you or behind the bar.

The problem is personal calls and text messaging.

However, when I manage I have no problem with them as long as it is kept 
behind the bar. Staff can check it on breaks or during slow times. Many of the 
cocktail staff are single moms and need to know if the kiddos get sick etc.

I always have mine in my pocket. I have been in two situations where one would 
have been handy and it is was nowhere around. 1) Bar was robbed, tender was 
shot several times and we all fled to the walk-in. 2) Female customer shot in 
the parking lot as she was putting her purse in the trunk and I was walking 
into the club.

I do agree though, if caught abusing the phone then you lose the priviledge.
