it funny you should say it is 'bad and wrong'.

I agree.

its funny because, the biggest tip earners on any bar I have worked have also 
been the ones who give away the most free drinks.

I point out that they only get tips due to their giving away the stock. But 
they insist that it is part of the service.

Its the same as charging for the drinks, then pocketing the money.
