Well Sarah the splitting tips thing is a pro and a con all together.  It 
especially sucks if your the one pulling most the weight around the bar.  At 
my bar we all work for our selves which is good in most cases.  I think 
splitting tips is good sometimes depending on the situation.  We don't deal 
with cocktail waitresses at my bar so I can't speak much on that.  Sometimes 
when we do special functions and two of us are working the same bar we will 
talk about splitting tips so we won't end up fighting over customers.  If you 
don't think your system is working maybe you should talk to your manager.  Ask 
him/her to keep track of you and your co-workers sales per night and compare 
them to the amount of tips you both put in.  The average should be between 15 
to 20 percent in tips per sales amount.  I think this should determine if 
anyone is holding out on tips.  As far as the waitress goes, personally if she 
is giving you an extra incentive for helping her, I wouldn't consider this tip 
money.  I would keep it.  When the promoter from the club gives me my $20 
handshake at the end of the night I don't count that towards the 10 percent I 
give my barback...same situation in my eyes.  Hope this helps a little.
