Since I did my little rant in January, there have been another 3 recurrances 
of problems related soley to the 'fairness' of tipping.

Ouch.

I'd add to this thread that it's NOT the managers place to negotiate stuff 
like this. Theoretically it would be, but due to the fuzzyness of the 
ownership of tips, any management-driven policy would be sort of improper.
Would you appreciate the boss telling you what to do with what you think of as 
gifts?

BUT, the long view is that the tipping B.S. is (in some class systems) so 
ingrained as to be institutionalized - therefore ripe for legislation. It all 
seems to keep leading to competition, and unfairness.

Just IMAGINE if there were menus that wrote down actual the price of drinks, 
reciepts that totaled the written amount accurately, cash that was handed over 
that was what was asked for, and pay rates that were appropriate to the 
services you were employed for.
Why is that such a hard concept? ... "...I wonder if you can"

It would sure put paid to most of the awkwardness I've seen written about in 
these threads!

P.S. ... yes I know it ain't that easy, but I am still slightly idealistic... 
not totally worn down to lowest common denominator yet. 
Pure tips are still a good thing :)
