Make sure you literally packing the glass with ice - that will leave less room
for mixer, and give the drink a stronger taste. Also, ask management if you
can switch to a smaller glass for those types of drinks, preferably a highball
glass. I've worked in places where people literally asked for LESS alcohol,
even though our standard pour was only 1 1/4 oz, simply because the highball
glass we used appeared much larger than it was, so when properly filled with
ice, any standard one liquor and mixer drink really did taste strong. Libbey
makes a nice, sturdy highball glass, that appears from the outside to hold
quite a bit of liquid, but it's so thick, and has the one inch thick bottom,
that it doesn't.
