At the risk of contributing to this dodgy thread, I'd advise against 
Everclear as it displays some of the worst aspects of alcohol. Cheap, gaseous 
nose, ridiculous strength, rough on the system and quite hangover inducing.

Good vodka (and the emphasis is really on the quality) is much better, as 
paying for the quality is what will prevent you from getting the bad 
after-effects on a delicate system unused to alcohol. 
There's plenty of discussions on the "best" vodka, but anything from Finlandia 
and Smirnoff Blue upwards will provide a comfortable introduction and be both 
no-alcohol-taste and hangover-free. (provided you stop somewhere between "the 
giggles" and "the staggers" )
