Lol, like I said, I won't stand behind it, it's just a guess. The reason I
link it to Smirnoff is because the company has had a history of pulling little
stunts like that, so I wouldn't put it beyond them to name a drink to gain
attention. Don't forget that smirnoff was also one of the very first vodka's
to hit the states and any attention, even bad (linking it with the enemy) was
good. BTW, I agree, it was well after the odourless whiskey campaign...I'm
just using that as a reference to how they operated when the company was still
young.
Again I say, it's a guess based on logic...and the logic is there (and not
far-reaching), I just don't know if the theory is close to true. It's
entirely possible that a new york bartender would have just made the name up
one day after deciding a Kahlua and Cream just wasn't enough for him. I wish
somebody knew where the history on the name was, I'm really curious now.

I was shown one a few months back that was made as a Long Island with Galliano
instead of coke. I was surprised when it tasted pretty good (I really don't
like LIITs). The banana flavor really smoothes out the harshness that a LIIT
has.
