I have been holding off replying to this thread for a while but now I just
wanna jump in.

Number one reason for me to be in a job is that it MUST BE FUN.

OK there are limits to fun like you can do whatever if the bars clean the
tills right and the stock is in check. So I say if you're not having fun then
your not in the right place, because from your experience you sound like
you're in the right profession.

It was quite funny to hear this topic mentioned and I said earlier I held back
on writing because I have seen this a lot over the last few months.

Some employees hate change. Now if you're behind a bar and are used to having
a giveaway tab and are generally the bartender people come into see, you're
gonna hate new management that prevents you from staying this way.

So three things you can do - a) think its been a good job, when things die
down it will be cool agian because the manager will see that I'm great. b) say
to yourself "its good" - recognise the manager is a figures man and that he's
not too concerned with your welfare and thinks he can train clones if you
leave, then decide to leave c) Have a chat to your manager and figure out
which of the above two he is and try and make it better. _ If not leave.

I was always brought up to believe that if you treat your staff properly and
provided great service, your money will come. However others beleive in the
magic of the calculator to bring in the money - by keeping stock in check and
so on.

So my advice - have a long chat with him - tell him your concerns - and
express how his management style demoralises staff and explain that it makes
you wanna leave. The ball is then in his court.

Either way - if he agrees and you don't see a change then the money better be
really good to help your loss of fun. - but for me - I take fun over money
any day.
