New bartender, trying to get some pointers....

Due to my lack of experience, I've made a few mistakes already at my part-time
gig. My boss has been understanding on some points, not as much on others. So
my question(s) would be what is the first thing that you do when you go on
duty? I had always thought the first thing would be check your supplies, get
bar set up and so forth. But I was told the first thing I should do is check
the CO2 tanks and replace as needed. Since I'm only there twice a week, I
would have thought the regular bartender would have done this, but it was me
that got chewed out for it. There are other thing that I'm learning as I go
along, so hopefully by the time all is said and done, I'll be ready for just
about anything. Are there any other good rules of thumb I should know of? At
any rate, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Rick
