I'm glad somebody finally pointed out that the original is with American Rye
and not bourbon or canadian. Though both these Whiskeys could contain an ample
amount of rye in their mash, it is never close to 51%. I do love Manhattans
with American Rye. It is a very different drink and the herbal and spicy notes
in the rye, martini rosso, and angostura bitters with the visual hint of
sweetness from the cherry garnish, served up (i personally insist on up, since
rocks change the nature of the drink and get in the liquids way) I think,
creates a sensational drink. (my prefered proportions 3oz Rye, 1oz Martini
Rosso, 2 dashes Angostura Bitters. stired, served up. garnished with cocktail
cherry)

I don't like the idea of having cheap, sweet cherry juice in this delicious
drink, where I find the balance of the three ingredience should be well
measured and respected. On the other hand, one should make it how they like.
though there is always the issue of going too far and loosing sight of the
original concept for the cocktail.
