I'm keeping this short because I still have a whole weekend of postings to
skim over :)
I skimmed through most of the responses and got the impression it's all people
who drink that responded. I was a non-drinking bartender. Don't get me
wrong, I had tasted a couple of things (mostly rum and coke). I had next to
no idea what most of the bar tasted like.
I made up for the lack of taste testing with having always been naturally good
with knowing the scent of the various bottles. I've posted on this point
before as well. Without having ever tasted tequila I honed my margaritas to
be the best and most popular in the bar (and in the city with exception to the
mexican restaurants)...kinda strange for a chinese restaurant to have
customers raving about the margaritas :)
The thing is, I started taking occassions to try something from time to time
after work. I wouldn't get drunk (or even buzzed most of the time) and I kept
it completely under control.
Here's the deal, you are limiting yourself, but there's no reason you can't
still do it. My bigger concern is still how you'll react to the people. It
took me a little while to come around to being used to the drunks despite
having been the babysitter for tons of people every weekend.
All said and done, good luck, and learn fast :)
