> What are the ingredients...seems like a pretty simple drink!
-------------------
The Cosmo is a fairly simple drink, but it also can be really messed up bad if
you don't get your ratios quite right. And like any other cocktail, a really
great Cosmo requires great ingredients.
Kent has provided you with a simple and straight-forward recipe, but one which
I have problems with two of the ingredients. Triple Sec, and Rose's Lime
Juice... I rarely use Triple Sec, and never use Rose's Lime Juice.
Here is the recipe that I've settled on for what I feel is a perfect
Cosmopolitan:
Cosmopolitan
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce cranberry juice
1 ounce Cointreau
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Optional: Before pouring the drink, you can moisten the rim of the glass with
lime, then coat with sugar. Some people also add finely grated zest of orange
to the sugar used to coat the glass with. A dash of Orange Bitters also works
really well with this cocktail.
Cointreau "is" Triple Sec, just a very, very, good one. There are various
levels of quality in the different Triple Sec's available, and like most other
things in life, you get what you pay for. So a $30 bottle of Cointreau is
definately better then a $7 bottle of Triple Sec.
And Rose's lime juice is just plain scary. I don't think there is any "common"
bartenders product that can ruin a drink faster then Rose's. With a very
careful hand, it "can" be used in cocktails that call for both Lime juice
and sugar, but even then it is no reall substitute for the real thing.
