I do not collect every book every published on cocktails, and have no 
intention of amassing a large collection of such books. If something occurs to 
me as interesting, then I go and look it up. Or course, I try and 'flick 
through' the books at a book shop to see if a book is interesting enough to 
buy. But as I said before, everyone seems to get published, in one way or 
another, so I am not going to spend my finanacial resources in buying all & 
everything cocktail-related.


I 'trust' the opinions of those posters who explain what they mean, rather 
than just stating what they believe, as fact. I feel that if you express your 
'opinion' on such a forum as this, then with so many people looking over it, 
it will be properly scrutinised (hopefully). 

Not every argument/ conflict of opinion is resolved, but if it couldn't be 
'sorted out' in 100 years plus of bartending, then it will take us a bit 
longer.

although I was inspired by Dick with regards to certain things, I would not 
call him my inspiration. I know it is 'nit-picky' but not everything he says 
speaks to me of 20years plus of experience. 

For instance, I asked him 3 separate times whether the bramble was a gin fix 
'laced' with creme de mure. my reponse was: 2 no's, 1 yes.

he explained sugar syrup versus sugar cubes, and other things. Those I have 
given up argueing about egg-white in whisky sours (no egg-white for me!). Also 
I prefer scotch in my whisky sours, as opposed to dicks bourbon preference. 
And they used to call me 'makers george'.;-)
