If seems that I am not the first to doubt Thomas' ownership of the "Tom and 
Jerry". King Cocktail beat me to it.

"Thomas is usually credited with creating this drink, but many people, 
ourselves included, have long been suspicious of this claim, and Dale “King 
Cocktail” DeGroff recently spotted something that seems to prove beyond a 
shadow of a doubt that the drink was around before Thomas set foot behind the 
stick.

In 1885, Thomas himself told a New York Times reporter that he invented the 
Tom & Jerry in 1847, at which time he would have been 14 or 15 years old, but 
Dale reported that he spotted a Tom & Jerry mug in a satirical cartoon, called 
Sandy's Dream, dated 1842—the year in which Thomas would have celebrated his 
tenth birthday. Another myth bites the dust."


The bit that gets me is "Thomas himself told a New York Times reporter that he 
invented the Tom & Jerry in 1847". Lying a-hole. I hate it when people claim 
they invented drinks that they didn't. It makes me doubt everything that they 
say.
