Following on Dan's proposal:
If you DO quote  a snippet of a post and then leave a link to the full 
comment/thread, I would hope that you would email the quotee and include a 
link to the snippet quoted and ITS context.  Even though you may leave bread 
crumbs leading to the full meal doesnt mean they will be followed and any "out 
of context" issues just sit there hanging.  It would be nice for the quoted to 
have a chance to weigh in, even if you only quote 10-25% of the material.  Web 
sites don't have a Letters to the Editor or Corrections page.
Just a thought from a non-expert who's been mis-quoted.
