I once tried to juggle and bought those cute penguin decorated bean bags from
who knows what mail order catalog...
I can barely walk without tripping let alone twirl a bottle. But one good
bartender I worked with eager to show off, teach others and charm guests tried
to explain the physics of centrifugal force. The amount in the bottle isn't
so important when you think about that pail of water and twirling that around
without dripping or leaking it's contents.
I still play around and see if I have the coordination required. Then I'm
discouraged as I need to clean up all of the sticky Rose's Lime juice now
sprinkled on the floor, walls, ceiling and every other horizontal surface! It
is fun to watch, fun to practice and fun to take in all of the faces of guests
with that heady smile of amazement. It's addictive.
I suppose where I work doesn't help because it is encouraged for us tenders
to throw the party and if a customer offers to buy you a drink or a shot, you
are expected to oblige them while finding some super human inner strength to
maintain a certain amount of sobriety when closing out your register and being
able to count. So flairing is something that I know I cannot do!
I love to play with fire, so the matchbook is easy. But no, I don't throw
it. (I was at one of my fav hangs recently and didn't notice the votives
behind the booth. Forever the klutz that I am, I flung my hair back, cooly
sipped my beautiful Cosmo and while I flirted with my date, I wondered "what
is that funny smell???") Accidents happen. And burns hurt! ;0)
