Traditionally, in spelling the word you don't use the e in Canadian and
Scotch, but you do use it in USA and Irish. Of course, there are exceptions
(most notably Maker's Mark).
For the past few decades, a good number of Scotch brands have been aging their
whiskies in old bourbon barrels.
As most of y'all probably know, uisge beatha (pronounced sort of like
"ishka-baha" or "ishka-bretha" or by slurring the hell out of "it's a
lawnchair" all depending on who you ask) is from whence the word whiskey is
derived and means "water of life".
Anyone who puts soda in an Old Fashioned should be shot in the kneecaps and
elbows. It's also rather pointless to muddle a cherry into one. The cherry
hardly changes the flavor at all. You're better off just throwing it in at
the end as trash.
http://www.scotchwhisky.com/ is a great source of info on Scotch.
Imo, few things can beat either an Old Fashioned made with a small batch
bourbon or a mineral water and scotch on rocks after a long day.
