I have a question for all of you. What is the etymology of the term Very Dry
Martini as referring to a glass of gin. I recently ordered a martini and the
bartender didn't even bother to do the repulsive nouveau "mixologist" trick of
misting the glass with vermouth from an atomizer. He just handed me a martini
glass of chilled vodka. "This is how a martini is made," he says. Obviously he
was dumb, or the bar was too cheap to buy or out of vermouth, but when did
this nonsense about "very dry" start meaning no vermouth?
