As per my post, um, yesterday, most of the name-brand drinks ARE great on
their own for what they are.
Cocktails, in the main, are not so much "improvements on" a manufacturers
product as "variations of ways of enjoying them". Remember this.
There's a few times when I read a customer and suggest they go for a straight
liqueur. Absolut flavours are a good example. And they go all downcast that
I'm not going to spring some magic concoction of them.
More ingredients is better, remember? :-/
> Same with whiskey. Who'd mix some 200$-Whiskey with CocaCola???
But they do. :-/ Gaahh!

There is "cheap stuff", and then there is aggressively cheap stuff that
can overpower or throw off a mix, but in general you have a good point.
I have no qualms substituting generic triple sec for Cointreau in almost
anything but an Orgasm.
And while I haven't spent any time developing on the merits of the Absolut
flavours, I sort of believe that any cocktail with three or more ingredients
that then specifies a flavoured vodka is starting to miss the point.
Basically you have to be at a level with the very best of other ingredients,
and in an environment where it's appreciated for this to make a difference.
Continue to enjoy... ... good things.
Such as straight Absolut Citron.
As much as you wish.
