What a great link.
Now what's the beverage service training manual got to say about that?
Several imported Pilsiners (Belgian etc) have set up bars with glass-wetters
as part of their tap installation.
The trained beer-staff are supposed to take a branded tulip beer glass, plunge
it on top of this mini-bidet then pour the beer and arrange a frilly napkin
skirt on the stem. It seems a little impractical, but is mostly a gimmick I
think.
However, it is also stylish.
I know there is a practical reason for the wetting (I just didn't know what it
was before that link) but I gotta say it's only appropriate in certain
establishments.
We have one such device installed at my place - for (of all things) Amstel.
Where I was in Europe, Amstel was regarded as the generic, basic, beer that
everyone drank because it was recognised, and cheap. Returning to the other
side of the world, in New Zealand it's a boutique import with this marketing
mistique built up around it.
Anyway, the beer-bidet is very handy for rinsing out my shaker tin!
.dan.
