Ya, Crown Royal is a very good rye and there are plenty of mixing whisky's 
around. Most bars in Canada use '5 Star' or Canadian Club as their well brand. 

Anyway, here's a good link on whisky (Scotch) tasting and the proper 
procedure. Mind you it sum's up to :: dilute your good rye and scotch with 50% 
water, preferably distilled ::
