Actually, that's the way you are suppose to drink it. Usually 40 to 50% water 
is best. In the Scotch world this is what they do:

1. Pour into glass
2. Look at colour
3. Sniff bouquet
4. Sip
5. Add Water
6. Enjoy

You can better appreciate the qualities of Crown Royal this way since it is a 
Whisky just like Scotch. Avoid ice and use cool water. Pearsonally, I like 
club soda in my rye, the bubbles help your sense of smell, which is about 80% 
of tasting.
