I don't know how it works every where else but in my littel corner of the
world I have noticed that when people have the opportunity to get tips it
motivetes them to do a better job. The employees of McDonalds and check out
persons in grocery stores hardly even speak to you while they are doing there
job except to give you your total and could care less at how fast you get
checked out or get your food or even if it is right most of them mope through
their day watching the clock because no mater how they did thier job they are
getting a pay check.
Not many people take pride in their work anymore. So let's pay the waitstaff
more and do away with tips all together then we will have resturants full of
slackers and waiters with bad attitudes. I tip the bar tender to make a drink
the right way and to insure prompt service and for having a good attitude
towards his job and helping me. I tip a waiter for the same reasons to make
sure i get my food in a timley manner I have seen many waiters gossiping with
their friends rather than geting my food from the kitchen and when that
happens there is no standard tip. 15% is for doing your job appropriatly and
well. 20 to 25 % is for going the extra mile with a smile
