I was a production assistant on an upcoming movie (March 2012 hopefully) 
called the Aviation Cocktail (murder mystery set in the 50's) and they shared 
this recipe for the drink

3 parts gin
2 parts maraschino liquer
1 part creme de violette OR fresh lemon juice (as the creme is hard to find)

shake over ice

I have found a couple variations on youtube but most have the creme de 
violette in it as that is what gives it the light purple color.

I made mine with the creme de violette AND lemon juice as that is what one of 
the youtube videos showed. it was nice.

I have a big bottle of lime flavored gin and am going to try that next time.
