Around here there's two types of sloe gin. A lower proof one that's really 
sweet and a higher proof one that's only lightly sweetened (like Mr. Boston). 
You can't really sub one for the other in recipes without some tinkering 
first. Half and half grenadine and high-proof sloe gin makes an ok sub for 
low-proof sloe gin, I've found.
