Unfortunately, it looks like the problems have followed us into the New Year. 
Several other popular sites are running on the same server which can't handle 
the load in periods.
The hosting company (pair Networks - http://www.pair.com/ ) are doing a great 
job on moving some sites to another server to improve the situation. This may 
take a couple of days and in the meantime please be patient and retry after a 
minute or so if you get error messages.
